Haryana won the team championship title of the Ladakh phase of Khelo India Winter Games 2026, thanks to the four golds won by their figure and ice-skaters.
Ladakh (5 silver), Maharashtra (3 silver) and Telangana (2 silver) finished second, third and fourth respectively in the medal standings. They all won two golds each.
The sixth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games got underway in Leh on January 20. The first leg which was held at the NDS Sports Complex, Guphuk Pond and the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre rink featured sports such as ice hockey and ice skating.
Figure skating, a Winter Olympic sport, was added to the ice skating programme for the first time at this edition.
Skarma Tsultim of Ladakh emerged as the most successful athlete of the phase with four medals in ice skating – gold in the women’s 1000m long track and relay as well as silver in the 500m long track and mixed relay.
Ishaan Darvekar of Maharashtra finished with two gold medals and three overall, while teammate Anvayee Deshpande also ended with three medals, including one gold.
Telangana’s Nayana Sri Talluri, who had claimed a hat-trick of gold medals at Khelo India Winter Games 2025, secured two individual golds this time around, as did Haryana’s Sachin Singh.
The second phase, comprising snow sports-alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, ski mountaineering and snowboarding- will be held later this year in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, with dates yet to be announced.
The Games follow a team championship format, where medals won by individual athletes or teams contribute to the overall tally of their respective unit. At the end of the competition, the team with the most gold medals is declared the overall winner.
