The Sepak Takraw teams from Nagaland gave a dominant performance at the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games 2025, held in Patna, Bihar. The contingent from the northeastern state of the country secured a total of four medals, comprising 1 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze.
The Nagaland girl’s team, comprising of Vikhosanu, Meyonu, and Thujono, clinched the Gold medal in the Double Event, while the Men’s team won a Silver medal in the Regu Event. Additionally, the Men’s Quad Team and the Men’s Team Event each earned a Bronze medal at Khelo India Youth Games 2025.
The Nagaland Sepak Takraw squad consists of 18 players with the team being led by Holshe Khrieo and Puleno Neikha.
The girl’s team trailed 4-11 at one stage but made a comeback to level at 13-13. They later earned two points to seal the victory at Khelo India Youth Games 2025.
“Frankly speaking, we didn’t expect gold, but our girls played really well. Credit to them for keeping their calm when it mattered the most. It was a really close encounter, and could have been anyone’s match, but the way it unfolded, I am proud of my girls,” said an elated Dziesebeinuo Vizo, Nagaland’s Chef-de-Mission.
Khelo India Youth Games 2025 : Manipuri boys win gold for Assam
In another display of northeast as the powerhouse, Manipuri boys secured the gold medal for Assam. The trio of Aprince Sinha, M Abhijit, and H Manganthoiba, whose family settled in Assam from Manipur, were playing against Bihar. They took a 15-9 lead but the hosts came back fighting, pushing the contest to a decider.
At 15-all in the decider, Assam clinched the last two points to seal the gold.
With these victories, Nagaland and Assam denied Bihar a Sepak Takraw gold at Khelo India Youth Games, as the host state settled for silver in both the boys’ and girls’ doubles finals.
