KKR IPL 2025: Can They Retain Their Dominance
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had an incredible IPL 2024 season, one of their best in history. Though they had won two IPL titles before, this time their dominance stood out. They topped the league table and cruised past SunRisers Hyderabad in the playoffs, eventually claiming their third title.
After such a successful run, retaining the team’s core was always going to be tough. However, KKR has managed to keep six key players: Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, Andre Russell, Harshit Rana, and Ramandeep Singh. Known for their loyalty, the franchise might also aim to bring back some of their previous players in the IPL 2025 auction.
Here’s a look at three players KKR could try to buy back in the upcoming auction.
Shreyas Iyer is not just a skilled batter but also an experienced leader. KKR needs a strong captain, as none of their retained players seem to fit the role. Iyer’s leadership qualities make him a perfect candidate.
While his T20 batting stats might not be extraordinary, his presence can guide the team both on and off the field. The question remains whether KKR can afford him, as his value in the auction is likely to be high. However, KKR’s emphasis on loyalty could see them trying to bring him back despite the challenges.
Phil Salt made a big impact in IPL 2024. Joining the team as a replacement for Jason Roy, the keeper-batter formed an explosive opening partnership with Sunil Narine.
Salt’s aggressive batting style fits perfectly with the conditions at Eden Gardens, KKR’s home ground. Given his performance last season, his price is expected to soar in the IPL 2025 auction. Despite the competition, KKR will likely aim to secure his return, hoping he can replicate his previous success at the top of the order.
One of the breakout stars of IPL 2024, Angkrish Raghuvanshi impressed everyone with his performances. Stepping into the top order after Nitish Rana’s injury, the young batter showed exceptional skill and confidence.
Though his technique against spin and in the middle overs still needs work, Raghuvanshi’s potential is undeniable. Often compared to Suryakumar Yadav, he is seen as a future star. Even without the Right-to-Match (RTM) card, KKR could bid aggressively to bring him back, ensuring a strong Indian talent in their batting lineup.
KKR has always valued player loyalty and team spirit. With a strong core already in place, adding back key players like Shreyas Iyer, Phil Salt, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi could make them even stronger contenders for IPL 2025. While the auction dynamics will be challenging, KKR’s focus on creating a balanced and powerful squad remains clear.
