Klay Thompson Grades Season: B With Mavericks
Klay Thompson grades his Mavericks season a ‘B’. Reflects on his stats, play-in game, and goals. See his NBA season review and play-in game focus.

Klay Thompson is not new to the spotlight. The 4-time NBA champion had his first full season with the Dallas Mavericks, and when asked to grade himself, he gave it a solid B. As the team prepares for a big play-in game against the Sacramento Kings, Klay takes a moment to reflect on what this season meant to him.
Klay Thompson Happy With His Role in the Lineup
While speaking to reporters before the Kings matchup, Thompson kept things real.
“My season individually? I’d give it a B. I thought I shot the ball decent. Nearly 40 from three. I’m really grateful to play in 72 games and be a consistent presence in the lineup. That’s something that I can really hang my hat on.”
This season, Klay averaged:
- 14.0 points
- 3.4 rebounds
- 2.0 assists
- Shot 41.2% from the field
- And 39.1% from three
That’s not too bad for a player still finding his rhythm with a new team and new system.
Mavericks Faced Tough Times, But Klay Stayed Steady
The Mavericks had a rocky season. Luka Doncic left for the LA Lakers, while Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis missed many games due to injuries. Despite the setbacks, Klay showed up and suited up almost every night. That kind of consistency isn’t easy, especially for a player coming off previous injuries.
“I Wanted to Reach the Finals Again”
When asked if playing over 70 games was his goal, Thompson said staying healthy was important, but he had his eyes on something bigger.
“It was a goal, but it wasn’t my main goal. My main goal was to go back to the Finals, and it’s still alive. Yeah, it was a good achievement for me, especially with the injuries I endured. To have that so far in the past now is awesome.”
This shows how focused Klay still is. For him, it’s not just about stats, it’s about chasing championships.
Revenge Game Coming?
Klay hasn’t forgotten the last time he played the Kings in a play-in game. Back then, he was still with the Warriors, and it was a night to forget a 118-94 loss and 0-for-10 shooting for Thompson.
This time, the story might be different.
