Larry Joe Bird, an American retired competitive basketball player, mentor, and NBA executive, was born on December 7, 1956. (NBA). He was raised in the nearby town of French Lick, where his mother supported Larry and his five siblings by working two jobs. Bird has claimed that his upbringing in poverty continues to inspire him now. When Larry was a senior in high school, Georgia and Joe got divorced, and approximately a year later, Joe committed suicide. As a senior at Springs Valley High School and a talented player who used basketball as an outlet for his personal issues, Larry averaged 31 points, 21 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. He eventually became the all-time leading scorer at the school.

He was a basketball star in his native French Lick, Indiana, when he was younger. Bird was heavily recruited and initially enrolled to play collegiate basketball for Indiana Hoosiers coach Bob Knight, but he left after one month and went back to French Lick to enrol in a nearby community college. The 1979–80 NBA season was Bird’s first in the league, and he quickly made an impression. Starting at power forward, he helped the Celtics improve their record from the previous year by 32 wins before they were eliminated from the playoffs in the Conference Finals. Over the course of his 13-year professional career, he spent all of it with the Celtics, helping them to three NBA titles and five trips to the NBA Finals. He spent the majority of his career with the NBA front court that some regard to be the best—forward Kevin McHale and centre Robert Parish.
