LeBron James is still making headlines in his 22nd NBA season. The 4-time NBA champion and one of the greatest players in basketball history continues to fight against time. Even at this stage in his career, LeBron is playing at a high level breaking records and inspiring fans.
But as the 2024-25 NBA regular season ends, one of LeBron’s longest-running streaks has finally come to a close.
25-Point Streak Comes to an End
Since his second season in the NBA (2004-05), LeBron has averaged at least 25 points per game every year. That’s 20 straight seasons of elite scoring a record that shows how consistent and dominant he has been.
Back in that 2004-05 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron averaged 27.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.2 assists. The only time before this that he didn’t average 25 was in his rookie year, when he still put up an impressive 20.9 points per game.
This season, however, LeBron’s average points dropped slightly to 24.4 per game. That means the streak is finally over. But even with that, his full stats show how well-rounded his game still is:
- 24.4 points per game
- 8.2 assists
- 7.7 rebounds
- 51.3% shooting
Lakers Hit 50 Wins and Secure Third Seed
LeBron might have missed that personal scoring mark, but the Los Angeles Lakers are in great shape as a team. They clinched the third seed in the Western Conference, which means no Play-In Tournament this time a big relief for Lakers fans.
Their latest win came in a huge way a 140-109 blowout against the Houston Rockets. That win gave the Lakers their first 50-win season since 2020, which was also the year they won the NBA title in the bubble.
LeBron Leaves the Game Early – Injury Update
During the game against the Rockets, LeBron had to leave early in the third quarter. It looked like he may have tweaked his left groin, an issue he’s dealt with before. He had already missed seven games earlier in the season because of groin problems.
But there’s good news for Lakers fans.
Coach JJ Redick gave an update after the game, saying LeBron is “fine” and there’s no serious injury concern.
LeBron finished the game with:
- 14 points
- 4 rebounds
- 8 assists
He’s not expected to play in the Lakers’ final regular season game against the Portland Trail Blazers, so he can rest up and be ready for the NBA Playoffs.
