Vidit Gujrathi is one of the most prominent Indian chess players. He made it to the headlines by qualifying for the Freestyle Chess Tour 2025, but as it turns out, that’s not it. His recent wedding with Nidhi Kataria is going viral for uniting chess legends from all around the country, who were seen grooving at Bollywood Beats at his wedding that took place on 2 April 2025.

Since it’s India, the wedding can’t just wrap up in one day, it needs to be a celebration that lasts for at least a week. Similarly, the couple’s wedding celebrations included a pre-wedding photoshoot that gained attention online. The couple also went viral upon sharing their wedding news in November after getting engaged.

Chess Giants Attend Vidit Gujrathi’s Wedding

Vidit Gujrathi’s wedding brought together a number of chess giants that were only once in a blue moon occurrence. Five-time world chess champion Vishwanathan Anand, the current world champion Gukesh D. and Praggnanandhaa were among some of the big names who attended the wedding.

The celebration took place at the luxurious Oxford Golf Resort in Pune, India. Grandmaster Anish Giri and his wife, Sopiko Guramishvili, traveled all the way from the Netherlands to mark their attendance at the iconic celebration. Hundreds of other Indian chess giants were seen, including the grandmaster Arjun Erigiasi, Raghavi N, Abhijit Kunte, Lanka Ravi, Tania Sachdev, and many more.

Anand Deshpande, founder and CEO of Persistent Systems and also the sponsor of Vidit Gujrathi Jeet Banerjee, tournament director of Tata Steel Chess India, and Avadh Shah, Country Director, Chess.com India, were among other elites who gathered in what seems to be the wedding of the year in chess world.

Anand And Gukesh Steal The Show With Their Dance Moves At Vidit Gujrathi’s Wedding

Not only that, but chess icons like Viswanathan Anand and Gukesh D. stole the show with their dance moves during the festivities. Gukesh D, especially surprised everyone with his energetic dance moves as he is generally known to be calm and composed on the chess board.

Praggnanandhaa, though initially hesitant, also showed his dance skills on the floor following Anand’s league.

With the Freestyle Chess Tour 2025 scheduled in less than a week, Vidit Gujrathi’s big moment at the prestigious tournament will coincide with his honeymoon. He said during an interview that they’ll probably celebrate their honeymoon in Paris, too, due to the tournament. He said, ” It’s an Indian wedding, it’s not just one day, it goes on for a week, but I’ll have a lot of happy emotions, so I think that’s my preparation, just being happy and in a good mood—maybe that’ll help!”
