Everyone’s eyes are on Leylah Fernandez, the Canadian as she has created huge upsets en route to her journey in the ongoing US Open 2021 competitions.
The unseeded, Leylah Fernandez won her quarter-final encounter against the 5th seed Elina Svitolina from Ukraine 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. The 3 sets encounter lasted for 2 hours and 24 minutes as the teenager clears the way for her 1st Grand Slam semi-final.
After a 1-1 set tie, the decider was the final verdict of who will advance into the next round. Here, Leylah Fernandez was trailing 2-5 but made a great comeback, to turn it around showing a fighting spirit as she took it to tie-break winning 7-5.

Fernandez in her previous two matches defeated the defending champion Naomi Osaka of Japan in the 3rd Round and 2016 former champion Angelique Kerber in the Round of 16 creating huge upsets.
As a result, after this stunning performance, the Canadian became the youngest women singles semi-finalist at the US Open since Maria Sharapova in 2005.
Fernandez will next face the 2nd seed Aryna Sabalenka in the 2021 US Open women’s singles semi-final on 10th September, Friday.
