Lionel Messi was 9 years old, when he first met Antonela through his best friend, Lucas Scaglia, who was Antonela’s cousin. Messi often used to see Antonela, when he visited Lucas’ house. Without talking much, Messi knew she was the one for him. He also wrote a letter which said:
“One day we will get engaged.”
However, their young love and relationship was disturbed, as life took Messi to Spain, when he joined FC Barcelona’s youth academy to pursue football professionally. The distance became an issue as Antonela was still in Rosario, growing up in a completely different world. For a while, they drifted apart, but not for long.
In 2005, Antonela lost her best friend in a car accident which shattered her world. When Messi got to know about it, he flew back to stay beside her through the tough time. This simple gesture brought them back together. Slowly and gradually, Messi and Antonela managed to be in regular touch, and their bond grew from friendship to romance. In the same year, the couple welcomed their first son, Thiago, and in 2015, they welcomed their second son, Mateo.
On June 30, 2017, the beautiful couple tied the knot in a grand wedding in their hometown, Rosario. Their marriage was considered as the ‘wedding of the century.’ After their wedding, in 2018, the couple welcomed their third child, Ciro.
