Liton Das Misses Asia Cup due to Viral Fever; Anamul Haque Bijoy Takes His Place
Bangladesh’s cricket team faces a setback as their key wicket-keeper batter, Liton Das, is forced to withdraw from the Asia Cup due to an ongoing viral fever.
Star Player’s Unfortunate Exit
The impactful wicket-keeper batter, Liton Das, has been compelled to pull out of the upcoming Asia Cup tournament due to his persistent viral fever, delivering a blow to the Bangladesh team.
Replacement Named
Minhajul Abedin, the Chairman of the National Selection Panel, shared that Liton Das did not journey to Sri Lanka for the initial match slated for Thursday. To fill the void, the 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, Anamul Haque Bijoy, has been designated as Das’s substitute by the Bangladesh National Selection Panel. Anamul will be joining the squad in Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
“Anamul’s Opportunity”
Minhajul Abedin stated, “Anamul has demonstrated consistent performance in domestic cricket, and we have been closely observing his progress in the Bangladesh Tigers program. His potential was always under consideration.”
“Given Liton’s unavailability, we required an accomplished top-order batter who could also fulfill wicketkeeping duties, and Anamul was the suitable choice,” he added.
Anamul Haque Bijoy’s Profile
With an impressive record of 44 ODIs for Bangladesh, Anamul Haque Bijoy has scored 1254 runs, including three centuries. His most recent ODI appearance was during a home series against India in December of the previous year.
A Rollercoaster Squad Selection
The selection process for the Asian Cup squad has been a rollercoaster journey for the panel. Initially, Captain Tamim Iqbal stepped down from captaincy and announced his retirement from ODI Cricket. However, he later reversed his decision after a personal meeting with Bangladesh President Sheikh. Amid speculations about Das possibly assuming the captaincy, the responsibility was ultimately entrusted to All-Rounder Shakib Al Hasan until the World Cup 2023.

The Asia Cup is set to commence in a few hours at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Pakistan, with the inaugural match between Pakistan and debutant Nepal.
