After hammering Leeds 6-1 on Monday, Liverpool won for the first time in five English Premier League games.
Liverpool hadn’t experienced success since thrashing Manchester United 7-0 more than six weeks prior.
But Liverpool destroyed Leeds in the second half after Cody Gakpo’s goal and a quick-fire goal from Mohamed Salah gave them a 2-0 advantage at the break. Darwin Nunez came off the bench to score late, and Salah and Diogo Jota each finished with two goals.
When Luis Sinisterra intercepted Ibrahima Konate two minutes after the half and lifted his attempt over goalkeeper Alisson to make it 2-1 for Leeds, the margin was halved.
Eight days after suffering a 5-1 home loss to Crystal Palace, Leeds’ defense, however, disintegrated in a predictable manner.
Two points behind Brighton in the standings, Liverpool held onto eighth place. Leeds remained in 16th place, two points above the bottom.
