Louis Oosthuizen demonstrated his prowess in golf by securing his second consecutive DP World Tour title within a span of six days, triumphing at the 2023 Mauritius Open. A brilliant birdie on the 18th hole widened his one-shot lead to a two-shot victory at the newly-opened La Reserve Golf Links, a course he co-designed with Peter Matkovich. This win marked Oosthuizen’s 11th victory on the DP World Tour.

The seasoned golfer, renowned for his 2010 Open triumph at St Andrews, had recently claimed victory at the weather-affected Alfred Dunhill Championships held at Leopard Creek.

Despite a previous day’s remarkable display of three eagles, Oosthuizen’s final round, a composed 3-under 69, secured him the win by an overall score of 17-under. Laurie Canter’s valiant effort placed him in second at 15-under with a round of 68.

Acknowledging the challenges faced during the tournament, Oosthuizen remarked, “Golf is the strangest thing. The last five weeks I’ve not done a lot with golf… I started hitting it really good, and then I just carried on with that momentum.”

Reflecting on the final round, he added, “I started very poorly, and that errant second shot on 16 made it interesting… I’m glad I held onto it.”

Elated at having his family present, Oosthuizen expressed, “This is the first event my daughters have been to where I won; this is very special.”

Throughout the tournament, Oosthuizen encountered challenges to his lead, yet the 41-year-old veteran showcased resilience, finishing with six birdies offsetting three bogeys within the last 14 holes.

Rivals Laurie Canter and Sebastian Soderberg made valiant attempts to close the gap. However, Oosthuizen’s consistent performance and strategic play maintained his control over the lead, securing his well-deserved win at the Mauritius Open.
