LS vs WF, The Hundred: Warner Guides London Spirit To Win Over Bairstow Heroics

LS vs WF: The Hundred 2025 match between London Spirit and Welsh Fire, played at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, was a truly great game, with London Spirit edging Welsh Fire in a thrilling last-over finish. The match was certainly one of the more entertaining of the tournament so far, especially with both David Warner’s brilliant half-century and Jonny Bairstow’s brave and undefeated innings.

David Warner’s First Fifty in The Hundred Powers, London Spirit

Australian veteran David Warner demonstrated his iconic poise and wisdom, making a comfortable 70, which led London Spirit to a competitive total. It was his first half-century in The Hundred it came at just the right time for the visitors, who were coming off a loss in their opening match.

Warner adeptly crawled a two-paced pitch, keeping his innings in check and holding the Spirit’s innings together. His innings wasn’t sensational but was punctuated by masterminded strokes, leaving his side with sufficient runs to play for.

Bairstow’s Blistering 86 Not Enough as Welsh Fire Fall Just Short

Pursuing a demanding goal, Welsh Fire collapsed to 55 for 6 at the midpoint. But Jonny Bairstow orchestrated a breathtaking counterattack, hitting 86 from 50 deliveries*, including six sixes, to take his side within touching distance of a sensational turnround victory.

Between balls 66 and 95, Fire amassed 74 runs, fueling Cardiff’s hopes. Bairstow, well-assisted by Chris Green, required 17 runs from the last five balls, but Luke Wood kept his composure to deliver the victory for London Spirit.

Dawson and Gleeson Shine with the Ball for Spirit

Before Bairstow’s late fireworks, Liam Dawson and Richard Gleeson kept things at bay for London Spirit. Both bowlers were tight and played a vital role in taking Welsh Fire to a precarious position early in the run chase. Their disciplined overformation formed the base for what would eventually turn out to be a close victory for the away side.

Warner Basks in Close Win and Praise from Fans

Titled the Meerkat Match Hero, David Warner gave credit where it was due to Bairstow and Green in his post-match interview:
“That got close at the end, and credit to the way Jonny and Greeny batted. They were just superb.”
