Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of Lucknow Super Giants and Durban Super Giants, has acquired the Manchester Originals franchise in The Hundred tournament.
The RPSG group, owners of the Super Giants, sealed the deal at £116m on the Originals in Monday’s virtual auction.
They agreed to acquire a 70% share in the Originals, making Lancashire have become the first franchise in The Hundred to hand over a controlling stake.
The sale of shares in five Hundred teams now comes to about £366m after the four deals.
RPSG were in a race to buy a stake in London Spirit, but lost out eventually. They then prevailed over Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchises to acquire Originals.
Lancashire chief executive Daniel Gidney had earlier expressed about the county’s desire to partner with an IPL team.
A Lancashire statement said: “We have been very focused on securing a great partner – ideally from the IPL – and RPSG has been our preferred bidder for some time.
“We are delighted by the outcome and look forward to working together to create an exciting future. Together, we have a shared ambition to create a very special cricket team for the people of Manchester and the wider North West region.”

RPSG Group Becomes Second IPL Owner to Acquire Stake in a Hundred Team
Manchester Originals have become the second Hundred franchise to partner with an Indian Premier League team after Lancashire agreed a deal with Lucknow Super Giants.
Last week, Mumbai Indians struck a deal to acquire a 49% stake in Oval Invincibles, as Surrey negotiated a £60m price with the owners of the county retaining the 51% share given to them by the ECB.
RPSG Group Investments in Franchise-Based Cricket
Sanjiv Goenka spent (£680m) to acquire the Lucknow IPL franchise in 2021. The following year, he purchased the Durban franchise in SA20. Goenka owned Rising Pune Supergiant, which participated in the 2016 and 2017 seasons when Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended.
