Inter Miami has completed the signing of veteran striker Luis Suarez, marking a significant reunion with his former Barcelona teammate and friend Lionel Messi. The Uruguayan, set to turn 37 next month, has committed to a deal that extends until the conclusion of the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, according to Xinhua reports.

In an enthusiastic social media announcement on Friday, Inter Miami welcomed Suarez to the team, emphasizing the joy of playing alongside friends. The acquisition comes as a free transfer, following Suarez’s departure from Brazil’s Gremio last month, where he showcased his prowess by scoring 26 goals in 53 appearances across various competitions. His outstanding performance earned him the coveted 2023 Golden Ball Award for the best player in Brazil’s Serie A.

Expressing his excitement about the new chapter, Suarez stated in a press release, “I’m very happy and excited to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami. I can’t wait to get started, and I’m ready to work to make the dream of winning more titles with this great club a reality.”

Suarez will not only join forces with Messi but will also reunite with former Barcelona colleagues Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba at the Florida-based club. Together, the quartet previously clinched four La Liga titles and a Champions League trophy during their illustrious six-year stint at the Camp Nou.

Co-owned by former England captain David Beckham, Inter Miami is gearing up for the 2024 MLS campaign, kicking off with a home match against Real Salt Lake on February 21.
