Macau Open 2025: Top Title Contenders Ft. China’s Chen Yufei

The Macau Open 2025 will take place from 29 July to 3 August 2025 bringing together some of the best shuttlers from around the world. It is a BWF World Tour Super 300 event.

This will be the nineteenth tournament of the 2025 BWF World Tour and also part of the Macau Open championships, which have been held since 2006. Overall, this is the 17th edition of Macau Open.

The competition is expected to set up some thrilling battles as top players from nearly 30 countries and regions bid for a bigger prize pool of US$370,000 amidst world-class action at Macau Open.  

Men’s Singles

  • Lee Cheuk Yiu (Hong Kong) leads the draw as top seed, seeking his first title of the season and hoping to convert consistent performances into a championship run .

  • Ng Ka Long Angus (Hong Kong) returns as defending champion—the 2024 winner—and will face local support and pressure to repeat his success .

  • Lakshya Sen (India), seeded number 2, is working to regain form after mixed results, with the World Championships around the corner .

  • Ayush Shetty (India), winner of the US Open Super 100, could be the tournament dark horse—his fearlessness and recent form make him one to watch .

Men’s Doubles

  • Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty (India)—Asian Games champions and world No. 3—are high seeds and seeking their first win of the season after several semifinal finishes. Their opening match pits them against Malaysia’s Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong.

  • Ren Xiangyu and Sun Wenjun (China) bring formidable credentials from the Chinese national setup and will challenge the Indian pair early on.

  • Yap Roy King and Wan Arif (Malaysia), seeded fourth, have had a patchy season but enjoyed a runner-up finish at Spain Masters last year. They’ll open against Ren/Sun in a tough draw.

Women’s Singles

  • Chen Yufei (China), Olympic champion, tops the women’s draw and is the overwhelming favorite. This marks her fifth tournament title quest in 2025. She would look to end her nine long years of title draught in Macau. 

  • Unnati Hooda (India) bursts onto the scene with a showdown victory over PV Sindhu at the China Open. Still only 17, her composure and aggressive gameplay make her India’s next big hope.

  • Other Indian challengers like Rakshita Ramraj, Anupama Upadhyaya, and Aakarshi Kashyap also feature and could produce upsets.

Women’s Doubles

  • Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela (India) lead the women’s doubles field as top seeds. The Indian pair have shown strong form this year and will aim to take the title home .

Mixed Doubles

  • Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei (Malaysia) enter as world No. 4 and the top seeds. Despite a few close losses earlier in the year, they remain favourites and will look to regain momentum.
