Manchester City Chief Executive Ferran Soriano has submitted a public apology to the fans. He apologized for the disappointment and frustration caused by the club’s involvement in the European Super League.
Man City along with 11 clubs from Spain, England and Italy announced a couple of days ago that they would be joining the European Super League. In response to this, there were protests by people in multiple countries. British Government also got involved and was strictly against this very idea. UEFA and FIFA also were against this very foundation of the new League. UEFA gave a very clear statement that “whichever clubs participate in this League, they will be thrown out of the domestic leagues and the players involved won’t be able to represent their national teams any further.
This statement alone made players and coaches revolt against the concept of the League. Following this many clubs (including Manchester City) backed out of the competition. Manchester City chief Ferran Soriano said “The board deeply regrets taking a decision that lost sight of the historic values of the club. We made a mistake and we sincerely apologize for the disappointment, frustration, and anguish caused by the last 72 hours.”
He also added “I’m sorry it has taken a little time but the circumstances have been somewhat exceptional. We will embrace the opportunity to earn back the full trust of stakeholders and football family in general”
