Australia had already been in trouble regarding its team for the Champions Trophy after captain Pat Cummins and vice-captain Mitchell Marsh got injured and are highly unlikely to play in the tournament. Marcus’ retiring from ODIs would mean they would need another replacement in between the process of replacing the two lead players.

Regarding his retirement, head coach Andrew Mcdonald said’ “Stoin has been such a pivotal part of our ODI setup for the past decade. Not only has he been an invaluable player but also an incredible person to have in the group. He is a natural leader, an exceptionally popular player and a great person. He should be congratulated on his ODI career and all of his achievements,”.
