England’s white-ball head coach, Matthew Mott, has dismissed Eoin Morgan’s recent suggestions of a rift within the current squad participating in the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup. Mott emphasized that the team remains closely-knit and addressed Morgan’s comments as a matter of opinion.

Before their recent match against India at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium, Eoin Morgan raised concerns about potential unrest in the England dressing room, speculating that internal issues might be contributing to their underwhelming performance in the tournament.

Following England’s 100-run loss to India, Mott refuted the notion of discord within the squad. He acknowledged that Eoin Morgan, who was away due to the birth of his child, was entitled to his opinion but indicated a plan to discuss this with him. Mott emphasized the strong relationship with Morgan and the team’s unity, stating that despite their results, they remain a tightly-knit unit.

Regarding any issues in the England dressing room, Mott responded negatively and expressed confidence in the team’s cohesion. He praised the squad’s resilience and camaraderie during training sessions and reiterated their commitment to improving despite facing challenges.

England had a glimpse of hope to end their losing streak in the ODI World Cup after restricting India to 229/9. However, their aspirations for victory were dashed by India’s formidable bowling attack, and England was bowled out for just 129, a result described by Mott as “very painful.”

Mott acknowledged the positive aspects of England’s bowling and fielding efforts but highlighted the critical wicket of Joe Root, suggesting that technology had shown a slight spike in the review. He praised India’s bowlers for their performance in home conditions and dealing with dew.

With the 2025 Champions Trophy qualification format in mind, Mott recognized the importance of winning two of their next three games to secure a spot in the competition. He emphasized the need for motivation and a strong performance against tough opponents in their upcoming matches.
