Meet Yuki Bhambri, India’s Number 1 In Tennis Doubles

Yuki Bhambri is in the headlines these days for his impeccable achievement. He overthrew Rohan Bopanna to become India’s Number 1 in tennis doubles. Bopanna had been enjoying the top position since 7 October 2019, and no one had been able to end his reign until Yuki defeated him in the Miami Open 2025 and took the lead. 

He will officially become the top Indian tennis player in the ATP doubles rankings at the end of the tournament. As of now, he has advanced to the quarterfinals of the event in the doubles category. With Yuki Bhambri making history by becoming the Number 1 in doubles in India, let’s take a look at his early beginnings and achievements.

Early Beginnings of The Rising Star, Yuki Bhambri

Yuki Bhambri was born on 4 July 1992 in New Delhi, India, into a family that enjoys a rich history in sports. His father, Chander Bhambri, is a doctor, but his mother, Indu Bhambri, and his sisters, Anita and Sanaa, are also tennis players. He started playing the sport at the age of 5-6 after getting inspired by his sisters. He quickly showcased his exceptional talent, and given his early exposure to the sport, he soon became passionate about tennis. 

His career began with participation in Indian and international circuits, but his breakthrough moment was the victory at the Australian Open, he became the first Indian to achieve this milestone, after which he also became the Number 1 in junior ranking in 2009. 

He made history by winning the prestigious Dunlop Orange Bowl Championship in 2008 at just the age of 16 years old. He has competed in all four junior grand slam tournaments and reached the semifinals at the Australian Open. He then also competed in the Youth Olympic Games in 2010 and won a silver medal after defeating Damir Džumhur.

Yuki Bhambri’s Most Notable Achievements

He won his first ATP men’s doubles challenger title at the Busan Challenger in 2012 and claimed his second title in the same in 2013. Despite struggling with multiple injuries throughout his career, he made a comeback in the French Open and clinched the title in 2018. He also achieved a ranking of World Number 83, and his career-high ranking is World Number 39.

He recently won the Dubai Tennis Championships and has been a consistent performer in the 2025 season. He also reached the semifinals of the Qatar Open and quarterfinals of multiple events. It would be interesting to see his journey as he aims to become the Number 1 in the world.
