Meg Lanning was born on March 25, 1992, in Singapore. In the sport of cricket, she is a massive star. When Lanning first broke onto the international stage as a youngster in 2010, she scored a century against England in only her second ODI. She has since won four World Cups as captain and a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Two years later, she smashed a hundred off just 45 balls at North Sydney Oval against New Zealand, setting a new record for the quickest one-day ton by an Australian player. Lanning was appointed permanent captain of the T20 squad one month after being Australia’s youngest-ever captain in January 2014, when he stepped in for an injured Jodie Field during the Ashes.

Later that year, she led her team to victory at the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, and in 2015, after taking over as captain for both Tests and ODIs, she led Australia to its first women’s Ashes victory since 2001.

Lanning had a rough 2017, including shoulder surgery, after her team was eliminated from the ODI World Cup in a shocking upset. However, Australia’s captain came out on top, ushering in a golden age that saw her team win the 2018 and 2020 T20 World Cups as well as the 2022 one-day World Cup, set a record with 26 consecutive ODI victories, and continue to keep the Ashes out of English hands. In addition, she made history by leading Australia to gold at the first-ever women’s T20 cricket Commonwealth Games. Even more impressively, Lanning is Australia’s all-time highest run-scorer across all formats and has hit more one-day tons than any other woman. In the wake of the Commonwealth Games, she stepped away from cricket for a full six months.
