The striking Indian Men’s Doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have carved history with their latest run in the BWF World Championships. The duo is set to be the first men’s doubles pair to clinch a medal at the championship for India. Earlier, the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa brought a medal home in 2011. And till now they stand as the sole double’s pair to achieve that feat.
The duo stunned World number 2 pair Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi of Japan in the quarter-finals in the early hours of Friday. Cruising to the semi-finals, Reddy and Shetty have laid their claims on a bronze. However, the pair is ready to give it all to upgrade it to a silver or a gold in the further stages of the game.

Reddy and Shetty came to BWF World Championships riding high on their gold medal run at the Birmingham Commonwealth games. Continuing the winning streak, they’re now in the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament. The world number 7 pair delivered a gritty performance to defeat the world number 2 in a match that run for an hour and 15 minutes. Shetty and Reddy grasped the match against the Japanese defending champions 24-22 15-21 21-14.
Another Men’s Doubles pair MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila showed commendable character to reach the quarter-finals. However, the duo received defeat in the quarter-finals match at the hands of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan. The Indonesian pair beat the underdogs 21-8, 21-40 in the half n hour-long match.

Moreover, Lakshya Sen ended his campaign after losing to H.S Prannoy in the pre-quarterfinal match. Prannoy edged out the golden boy in the one-and-a-half-hour match 21-17, 16-21, and 21-17. Prannoy is now set to sort it out with China’s Zhao Jun Peng in the quarter-finals. Moreover, Srikant Kidambi and Saina Nehwal are also out now. Nehwal lost to Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand in the pre-quarterfinal 17-21, 21-16, 13-21.
