Milwaukee Bucks: Why Lillard's Exit Benefits Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Milwaukee Bucks are entering a new chapter. Damian Lillard is gone back with the Portland Trail Blazers and now, it’s all on Giannis Antetokounmpo. While losing a nine-time All-Star like Lillard may sound like a setback, it could actually be a good thing for the Bucks. This change gives Giannis full control and may help the team find a stronger rhythm.
Here’s why the Bucks might be better off with Giannis leading solo.
For the past few seasons, Giannis had to share the spotlight. First with Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday, and then with Damian Lillard. Now, without another big-name star, Giannis will have the freedom to take every big shot, lead every play, and guide the team the way he knows best.
Think about Russell Westbrook after Kevin Durant left he played with fire and even won the MVP. Giannis could do something similar. When he’s the only leader, his stats can go even higher, and his impact will be even stronger.
He may not just dominate the court again he might remind everyone why he’s one of the most feared players in the league.
Without another superstar, the roles in the team will become clearer. Giannis is the leader, and everyone else supports that role. This makes things more focused.
Players like Kyle Kuzma, Myles Turner, and Kevin Porter Jr. can now settle into roles that fit their strengths. They don’t have to adjust to Lillard’s game or wait for their turn. Instead, they can focus on helping Giannis in ways that make the whole team better.
Even during close games, there will be no confusion. Everyone knows the ball goes to Giannis.
After trying many combinations with Middleton, Holiday, and Lillard and only winning one title in 2021, the Bucks haven’t had much luck lately. Now, it’s just Giannis and a supporting cast.
There are no more excuses. No more “this duo didn’t work” or “chemistry takes time.” Now, it’s all about Giannis taking charge and showing he can carry the team like other NBA legends did before him.
This might be the motivation he needs to prove that he doesn’t need another superstar next to him to win big.
