The Indian Premier League (IPL) got a new champion this year as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally won their first title after waiting 17 years. RCB’s director of cricket, Mo Bobat, told the team to enjoy the feeling of winning and aim to win more trophies in the future.

So far, only two teams – Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings – have successfully defended their IPL titles. Bobat hopes RCB can follow in their footsteps and win the title again next year.

RCB Ends 17-Year Wait for First IPL Title

After winning their first IPL trophy, RCB’s director of cricket, Mo Bobat, gave a motivational speech to the players. He encouraged them to get used to the feeling of winning and aim for more success. Bobat mentioned that very few teams have won back-to-back IPL titles and reminded the team that the IPL 2026 final will be held at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. This winning feeling will push RCB to do even better next season, with hopes of lifting the trophy again. It took the team 17 years to finally win their first IPL title, after losing three finals before the 2025 season.

Mo Bobat’s Motivational Message to the Team

In the dressing room after the win, RCB’s director of cricket, Mo Bobat, gave an inspiring speech to the players. He said:

“I am gonna ask you to really make sure that we get addicted to this feeling of winning. Because this is a start. Not many teams have won back to back IPL titles. It has happened twice before. Next year, we will have a final in Bangalore and we will go again. So get addicted to the feeling tonight. Because it’s that feeling which then drives the hunger to go again next year.”

“It’s that addiction to winning, winning that trophy and sharing these moments which spurs us on and drives us on. We will be back next year and win that trophy again,” Mo Bobat told the team.

Mo Bobat had faced criticism after the IPL mega auction for picking players like Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell, which some fans saw as creating a second-string England squad. But after RCB’s win, the same fans are now praising the team management.

Honoring Virat Kohli’s 18 Years of Dedication

Mo Bobat also took a moment to thank RCB’s star player, Virat Kohli, who has been with the team since the very first IPL season and has given his best for 18 straight years.

“I know you don’t like to be singled out, Virat, but thank you for everything as a senior player and an icon player of this team. Everything you have put in over the last 18 years, you deserve this moment,” Bobat said.

Bobat credited RCB’s bold and aggressive style of cricket for helping them win the IPL 2025 title. He also said the atmosphere in the dressing room was truly special. According to him, the IPL trophy is one of the most desired in world sport, and everything RCB went through over the years to finally win it is nothing short of incredible.

RCB director praised opener Phil Salt, who traveled home for his child’s birth and still returned to join the team for the playoffs. Salt showed great passion by rejoining the squad on the final match day.
