MO vs OI: Oval Invincibles continued their perfect start in The Hundred 2025 with a dominant performance over Manchester Originals (MO) at The Oval. In a one-sided MO vs OI encounter, the Invincibles chased down a modest target with 43 balls to spare, securing a resounding nine-wicket win in front of a packed home crowd of 20,976.
Having won the toss for the second time this season, Oval Invincibles (OI) opted to bowl first, and it paid dividends almost from the get-go. Left-arm seamer Jason Behrendorff set the tone with an early wicket, taking out Matty Hurst for a golden duck as well as England captain Jos Buttler for naught in a blistering opening spell.
With MO faltering at 18 for 2 in the first 15 balls, captain Phil Salt had to play the anchor’s role. In his innings, Salt reached The Hundred 1,000-run mark, but all his efforts went to waste.
After a brief spurt of resistance by Mark Chapman (28), spin master Rashid Khan put the stranglehold in the middle period. He finished with strong figures of 3 for 19, getting rid of both Chapman and Salt, and contributing heavily to containing the Originals’ run-scoring.
Sam Curran, the all-rounder, also contributed with the ball, taking 2 for 17, including Noor Ahmad’s wicket on his very first ball. Scott Currie’s cameo of 21 supported the Originals to 128 for 7, though it was evident they were short of the mark.
Pursuing 129, the Invincibles brought a ferocious counter to the Originals’ bowling attack. Will Jacks was especially aggressive, hammering boundaries around the park, while Tawanda Muyeye contributed a more measured innings to balance things at the other end.
Both of them combined to bring up a thrilling 114-run opening partnership in 49 balls, with both of them reaching their fifties during the process. Jack’s ended up getting 61, taken on the boundary by Lewis Gregory, but the damage was done.
Muyeye on 59 not out and Jordan Cox confidently closed out the chase, taking Oval Invincibles to their second successive win in The Hundred 2025.
In his post-match comments, ace performer Rashid Khan had the following to say:
“I’m feeling happy receiving the back-to-back Man of the Match awards, but more importantly, the win was very special with a good run-rate as well. It’s a great start to the competition, and everyone is stepping up—whether with the bat, ball, or in the field.”
Through successive victories and top individual performances, OI have made an early statement in The Hundred.
