Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin seems dissatisfied with the final squad for the T20 World Cup. The BCCI announced India’s final 15 on Monday along with the squad for the bilateral series against Australia and South Africa. The selection committee didn’t wander much away from the Asia Cup squad while selecting the World Cup squad. Furthering their trust in the players, they included the likes of Deepak Hooda, Dinesh Karthik and Arshdeep Singh among others.

Moreover, the side looks solid with Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel back in the team. Apart from the pacers, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Ashwin are included as the primary spin choices. Additionally, Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya are moving forward with their all-round skills.

The board has kept Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar and Mohd. Shami as the standbys for the World Cup campaign. However, this is where Azharuddin has registered his stance, opining that both Shreyas Iyer and Shami deserved a spot in the main squad.

Azharuddin took to Twitter to state the name of players he wanted in the squad in place of others. “Surprised at the omission of Shreyas Iyer and Md. Shami from the main squad,” Mohammed Azharuddin tweeted. “Shreyas Iyer instead of Deepak Hooda and Md. Shami in the place of Harshal Patel would be my choice,” he added.

Mohammad Shami has proved his mettle in the shortest format recently for Gujarat Titans in the IPL. Moreover, he has been selected for the upcoming T20i series against Australia and South Africa. Iyer has delivered impressive performances in the format in the recent past as well.
