Mohammad Siraj Reaches 200 International Wickets: Mohammed Siraj, the 31-year-old right-arm pacer from India, has reached a major milestone in his career by picking up 200 international wickets. With his strong performances in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, Siraj has now joined an elite list of Indian fast bowlers to achieve this feat.
From Rajkot Debut to Key Team India Bowler – Mohammad Siraj’s inspiring journey so far
Mohammad Siraj began his journey in international cricket back in November 2017, making his debut in a T20I against New Zealand in Rajkot. Since then, he has steadily grown into a reliable bowler across all formats. He earned his ODI cap in January 2019 and made his Test debut in December 2020. Over time, he became a key member of India’s pace attack, second only to Jasprit Bumrah.
Though he was recently left out of India’s white-ball squads despite performing well, there’s a strong chance fans will see him back in blue soon.
In the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Mohammad Siraj has given his all, playing all five Test matches, a rare feat. He is the only Indian bowler to feature in every game of the series so far. England’s Chris Woakes was the only other bowler to play each match until a shoulder injury ruled him out during the fifth Test.
Mohammad Siraj has grown stronger as the series progressed and is currently India’s top wicket-taker on the tour. He took 14 wickets in the first four Tests and got his 15th by dismissing England’s stand-in captain Ollie Pope in the final Test at The Oval.
A Special Dismissal: Ollie Pope Becomes Siraj’s No. 200 Wicket
That special wicket came in the 25th over when Mohammad Siraj bowled a perfect good-length delivery outside off-stump that cut back in and hit Pope on the pad. Though the umpire turned down the appeal, India went for a review. The ball-tracking showed all three reds, and Pope was given out for 22 runs.
With that, Mohammad Siraj reached the 200-wicket mark in international cricket, becoming the 15th Indian fast bowler to do so. His journey includes some big names along the way: his first international wicket was Kane Williamson, his 50th was Matthew Potts, his 100th was Ashton Agar, his 150th was Ben Foakes, and now, Ollie Pope is his 200th.
It’s a proud moment for Mohammad Siraj and Indian cricket, as he continues to grow into one of the team’s most dependable fast bowlers.
