Suspense over Mohammed Salah Salah’s continuation with Liverpool continues as the star striker is yet to renew contract with the club. The Egyptian had earlier stated that he was “more out than in” as his contract at Anfield is due to expire by the end of the season.

Cody Gakpo is hoping that his Liverpool team-mate will extend his stay at Anfield.

The 32-year-old Egypt forward is yet to sign a new contract before he becomes a free agent as his agreement ends next summer.

Despite the uncertainty over his future, Salah has been in a sensational form this season as well. His formidable form continues as he scored twice against Tottenham Spurs in Sunday’s 6-3 win in North London.

He has already notched 15 times in the Premier League this term and is now into fourth place on Liverpool’s list of all-time record scorers.

“It’s very special what we are all witnessing,” winger Cody Gakpo told the club’s website.

“The amount of goals he scores but the assists he gives as well, the way he plays the game, how he puts other attacking players or midfielders like myself in a position to score and to be dangerous is from a high level.

“I hope for us and for him that he can continue doing that for a long time. We are very lucky to have him and proud that we can be his team-mate and try to make him better. And he is trying to make us better as well.”

The Egypt star is now on course to repeat his 2022 feat of winning both the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards.

Mohammed Salah Salah has scored 12 goals in the past 12 matches. He has scored 33 goals across all competitions this season (18 goals, 15 assists). He has at least four more than any other player from Europe’s top five leagues.

With goals against Tottenham on Sunday, Mohammed Salah achieved the following Premier League records:

  • First player to reach double figures for goals and assists before Christmas
  • First player to reach double figures for goals and assists in four consecutive seasons
  • This is a record sixth season Salah has achieved the feat, overtaking Wayne Rooney’s five

Salah will now look to equal at least one more record this season, with his eyes on finishing Premier League top scorer for a fourth time – something only Arsenal’s Thierry Henry has achieved.

Mohammed Salah has scored 18 league goals in each of his seven seasons at Liverpool.

Five more goals this season will make him only the fifth player to have five 20-goal Premier League seasons.
