Star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has said that reverse swing has been affected since the ban on using saliva, and he wants the International Cricket Council to lift the rule to bring reverse swing back.
Mohammed Shami Calls for Saliva Ban to Be Lifted for Reverse Swing
Saliva was commonly used by pacers worldwide to maintain the shine on one side of the old ball, which helped in generating reverse swing.
While speaking to the media after the end of the Champions Trophy semifinal against Australia in Dubai, Shami said: “We are trying to reverse, but you are not getting the use of saliva into the game. We are constantly appealing to allow the use of saliva, and it will be interesting with the reverse swing,”
Mohammed Shami impressed again in an ICC event, taking 3/48 in 10 overs. He acknowledged that being India’s only main pacer after a long injury layoff has been a big responsibility, but he is working on regaining his rhythm to help the team in the ICC tournament.

Shami Reflects on the Responsibility of Being India’s Main Pacer
During the Champions Trophy in Dubai, Mohammed Shami has shared the new ball with Harshit Rana or Hardik Pandya, as Jasprit Bumrah has been out due to injury. Rana is still gaining experience, and Pandya, being an all-rounder, isn’t used to bowling 10 overs in an ODI. So far, Shami has taken eight wickets in the Champions Trophy.
“I am trying to get my rhythm back and contribute more to the team. It is a responsibility when there are no two proper pacers, and I have to shoulder more responsibility,” Shami said.
The star India pacer said that his workload is heavier without Bumrah bowling at the other end, but he is determined to give his best and put in over 100% for the team.
“There is a load when you are the one main pacer, and the other is an all-rounder. You have to pick wickets and lead from the front,” Shami said.
