Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has lashed out at the former Indian cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar for the latter’s latest remarks on his potential price drop at the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.
Mohammed Shami, who is one of the most sought-after Indian bowlers in the IPL, wasn’t pleased with the remarks made by Sanjay Manjrekar and he decided to give it back to him brutally.
For the unversed, Sanjay Manjrekar recently mentioned that Shami’s frequent injuries could lead to a lower price in the mega auction. While the fast bowler is now fully fit and back in action, his injury history might make franchises cautious about signing him. Speaking on Star Sports, Manjrekar had said:
“There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season.”
He added:
“If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag.”
Mohammed Shami, left out of the Gujarat Titans’ retention list, recently made a strong comeback after surgery and had a sharp response for Sanjay Manjrekar. Taking to Instagram, Mohammed Shami slammed Sanjay Manjrekar, in a mocking tone, by calling him a ‘Baba’. He wrote:
“Baba Ki Jay Hooooo. Thoda sa gyan apne future ke liye bhi bacha lo, kaam aayega Sanjay G. Kisi ko future jaana ho toh sir se mile (Save some wisdom for your own future, Sanjay G. If anyone wants to know their future, do contact ‘baba ji’).”

Mohammed Shami last featured in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia in Ahmedabad. Since then, he has been sidelined due to fitness issues. Earlier this year, the fast bowler underwent surgery on his Achilles heel.
The surgery kept Shami out of action for an extended period, causing him to miss both IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup 2024. Although he was initially expected to return for India’s Test series against Bangladesh, he couldn’t recover in time.
Hopes of a comeback in the New Zealand Tests were also dashed due to swelling in his knee. As a result, Shami was not selected for the five-match Test series against Australia.
