Mohammed Shami Set for a Fresh Start in India Colors: Mohammed Shami’s India career may soon get the boost it needs thanks to his outstanding run for Bengal in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26. The experienced fast bowler has already taken more than 20 wickets in just three matches, reminding everyone of the match-winner he has always been.

Even with his strong domestic form, Mohammed Shami hasn’t been picked for India recently. But there is finally some good news for the veteran pacer. He is now set to feature in India’s top domestic T20 competition, giving him a real chance to return to the national T20 squad.

Shami Ready for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025

According to Revsportz, Mohammed Shami will be named in Bengal’s squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, which begins on November 26 and continues until December 18. This tournament could be a big turning point for him, offering the perfect platform to prove he deserves a comeback to India’s T20I team.

If Mohammed Shami continues the same brilliant form he has shown in the Ranji Trophy, he could put himself right back in contention for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

It is worth noting that Mohammed Shami has been left out of several recent tours, including England, Australia, the home Test series against the West Indies, and now the ongoing series against South Africa.

Eyes on an India Comeback After Dominating Ranji Season

Fans will now be watching closely to see if Shami’s Ranji Trophy performances are enough to earn him a place in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, starting November 30.

Mohammed Shami’s last appearance for India came during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where the Men in Blue lifted the title in the UAE. Since his outstanding run in the 2023 World Cup, injuries slowed him down, affecting both his fitness and his place in the playing XI.

There has also been talk that a few of Shami’s public comments regarding his fitness did not sit well with the BCCI and selectors, which may have contributed to his continued exclusion. His decision not to play for India A before the England tour reportedly didn’t help his case either.

This year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will feature 30 teams divided into four groups, moving from a round-robin stage into knockouts. Bengal finds itself in Elite Group C alongside Punjab, Haryana, Baroda, Gujarat, Puducherry, and Services. Their first match is scheduled against Baroda on November 26.

Bengal received a huge boost in their Ranji Trophy clash against Assam on November 19. All-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed hit his second first-class century, while Shami picked up a five-wicket haul to help Bengal secure a draw. Shami took three wickets in the first innings and added two more on the final day.

Assam were bowled out for 200 in their first innings, and Bengal responded strongly with a total of 442, thanks to Shahbaz’s 101 and Sumanta Gupta’s impressive 97. In the final innings, Denis Das and Sumit Ghadigaonkar hit solid fifties to deny Bengal their fourth straight win, ending the match in a draw.
