Siraj started the day with energy and pace. In just the second over of the morning, he dismissed two key English batters Joe Root and Ben Stokes, one after the other.
- Joe Root was looking good on 22 but fell to a ball drifting down the leg side. He tried to flick it fine but only managed a thick edge. Rishabh Pant took a sharp catch behind the stumps.
- On the very next ball, Siraj bowled a short delivery that bounced awkwardly. Stokes couldn’t get out of the way and ended up edging it to Pant again, who made another clean catch. Stokes was out for a golden duck.
With those two wickets, England were struggling at 84/5 in just 21.4 overs.
Siraj and Akash Deep Shine in Bumrah’s Absence

Earlier, Siraj had already removed Zak Crawley for 19 on Day 2. With Jasprit Bumrah not playing in this match, the pressure was on the rest of India’s pace attack and they delivered.
Akash Deep, the young pacer, also performed well. On Day 2, he removed both Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, both for ducks. His sharp pace and control gave England’s top order a hard time.
India in Full Control After Huge First Innings Total

India started strong in this match with a massive first innings total of 587 runs.
- Captain Shubman Gill led the way with a brilliant 269 off 387 balls. His innings included three sixes and 30 fours. He became the first Asian captain to score a Test double hundred in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia).
- Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with 89, while Yashasvi Jaiswal played an aggressive knock of 87.
For England, Shoaib Bashir was the most successful bowler with three wickets. Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue took two wickets each.
England in Deep Trouble at 160/5
At the time of writing, England were at 160/5 after 32 overs, with Harry Brook and Jamie Smith at the crease. They now face a tough challenge ahead if they want to get close to India’s total.
