The Monaco Grand Prix, one of the most iconic races in Formula One, will continue to thrill fans until at least 2035. The extension was confirmed on Friday, giving the glamorous Monte Carlo race a longer stay on the F1 calendar beyond the contract that had already been set to run until 2031.
Monaco Grand Prix – From May to June, and Now Locked in Longer
Just last November, Formula One signed a six-year extension with Monaco Grand Prix and also shifted the race from its traditional May slot to June. The change was made to avoid a date clash with the Indianapolis 500.
This latest announcement was made ahead of the Italian Grand Prix weekend at Monza, adding even more excitement to the build-up.
A Race Steeped in History
Monaco has been a part of Formula One’s story since the very beginning. It first featured in the inaugural world championship season in 1950 and, except for the pandemic-hit year of 2020, has been a permanent fixture since 1955.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali highlighted the race’s significance, saying: “The streets of Monaco have been echoing with the sound of Formula One since the earliest days of the sport, so I’m delighted to announce the extension of this fantastic event to 2035. It is an iconic race that is loved by all drivers and fans, with a unique vibe thanks to its location on the world’s most glamorous Principality.”
One of the Longest Deals in F1
With the new agreement, Monaco Grand Prix now joins the list of venues with some of the longest-running contracts in Formula One. Miami and Austria’s Red Bull Ring are signed on until at least 2041, Bahrain until 2036, Melbourne until 2035, and Silverstone until 2034. Saudi Arabia and Qatar also remain confirmed until at least 2032.
For fans, this means the glamour, prestige, and thrilling street racing of Monaco Grand Prix will remain a highlight of the season for many years to come.
