Morocco’s Debut at FIFA Women’s World Cup: A Historic Milestone and Greatest Matches Revealed

Moroccan women’s soccer is making strides both domestically and internationally after spending many years mainly in the background. The national women’s team will compete for the first time at the FIFA Women’s World Cup this summer, becoming the first team from the Arab world to qualify.  It’s the first time that Morocco’s national women’s team has qualified for the competition.

Moroccan football officials and players claim that hosting the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2022, which attracted enormous crowds of fans, helped their nation qualify for the World Cup and represented a turning point in how people view women’s football.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which starts on July 20, will have Morocco as the underdog. The first game they will play is on July 24 versus Germany.

Morocco vs Guinea 1976

The national team did not halt its winning streak until it met Guinea in the championship match at the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations in Ethiopia, where it won its first title.

Even though Morocco trailed by one throughout the entire game, Ahmed Makrouh, also known by his nickname “Baba,” was able to win Morocco its first championship by tying Guinea with a spectacular goal in the dying seconds of the game. The game’s first goal was scored by Abdeljalil Hadda at 47 minutes, while the game’s second goal was scored by giant striker Salaheddine Basir at 22 and 85 minutes.

Morocco vs Norway 1998

Moroccan golden footballers valiantly demonstrated their skills and patriotism during the national team’s World Cup match against Norway in 1998 in France, despite the results being a tie. As a result, it was the best Arabic and African World Cup teams.

The game between Algeria and Morocco was regarded as the local derby. Atlas Lions defeated Algeria 4-0 in 2012’s qualifications for the African Cup of Nations. At the 25-minute mark, Golden defender Mehdi Benatia successfully scored the opening goal. Moroccan superstar Marouane Chamakh scored the second goal at the 38-minute mark.
