Most Consecutive Wins in ODI International Cricket: Records and Statistics

Winning streaks are a strong sign of domination. It serves as a quantifiable gauge of a team’s dependability on the field, which, more often than not, translates into enduring legacies. Australia has long been a major player in cricket, particularly in the One Day International (ODI) format. The Australian team, in particular under Ricky Ponting’s captaincy, experienced an unmatched golden run. Here are the ODI cricket teams that have been able to string together the most victories.

Australia — 21 victories

Australia’s 21-match winning streak in 50-over cricket between January 2003 and May 2003 is the longest winning streak in ODI cricket historyA seven-run triumph against England in Hobart began off the remarkable streak. This was the seventh match of the VB Game held between England, Sri Lanka and Australia. Australia went on a six-game winning streak after this game, taking every game they played in the series.

They continued their impressive run in the 2003 ICC World Cup by defeating Pakistan, India, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Namibia, England, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. The unstoppable Australians continued on to win the championship by defeating India in the final. Australia’s streak ended on their trip of the West Indies. After dropping the first four of the seven games in the series, the Windies bounced right back with three consecutive wins, bringing an end to Australia’s golden run.

By a wide margin, Australia’s 21-match victory streak is the longest in ODI history. The next-best mark is 12 victories in a row, which South Africa and Pakistan both accomplished twice.

South Africa – 12 wins

From February 2005 to October 2005, while Graeme Smith served as captain, the Proteas enjoyed their finest run in One Day International cricket. In February 2005 at the Centurion, they defeated England by three wickets to start it all. The South African tour of Zimbabwe ended with a 3-0 victory for the hosts, and the South African tour of the West Indies ended with a 5-0 victory for the guests. The Proteas won the five-match series 4-0, and it continued into New Zealand’s tour of South Africa later that same year. South Africa’s winning streak was ultimately broken with a no-result in the fourth game.

Pakistan – 12 wins

With 12 consecutive victories in ODIs, which occurred between November 2007 and June 2008, Pakistan is tied for second place. It started with a 31-run triumph against arch-rivals India in Jaipur under Shoaib Malik’s captaincy. A five-match series against Zimbabwe in January and February 2008 and a five-match series against Bangladesh were two significant bilateral series that Pakistan hosted, continuing their winning streak. Pakistan demonstrated complete dominance at home by defeating Bangladesh 5-0 and Zimbabwe 5-0, respectively.

Later that year, Pakistan went on a tour of Bangladesh, and they won the opening game to extend their winning streak to 12 games. However, Bangladesh defeated them in the following match, snapping their winning run.

South Africa – 12 wins

Between September 2016 and February 2017, while AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis shared the captaincy of the South African national side, South Africa tied their own record of 12 straight victories. Everything began with a big 206-run victory over Ireland, which was followed by a 5-0 rout of Australia when they visited South Africa. Soon after visiting the Proteas, Sri Lanka received the following treatment and lost the series 5-0.

After a run of 12 victories, South Africa just suffered their first loss in a while when they traveled to New Zealand and lost the second ODI of the series. The Indian men’s cricket team has twice amassed a victory streak of nine games in the fifty-over format. Between November 2008 and February 2009, the first occurred, and between July and September 2017, the second.
