He is still holding the record for most of the World Cup tournament appearances, leading to varied ends in six different competitions ever since 1982. Parreira also has the trophy case that made his position rock solid as a legend, while turning up is good here.
Coaching Career
Parreira commenced his career as a physical trainer under a small club in Rio de Janeiro, famous as Sao Cristovao, in 1967, right after he finished college. He went to Ghana in 1968, coaching the national team as a medium to gain greater experience and save money.
He was one of the best physical trainers of the Brazil team in the World Cup of 1970. It dates back to the years of robust and cordial friendship between Zagallo and Parreira, who coached the team during 1970, and assistant coach of Parreira in the Cups in 2006 and 1994.
Parreira attained the physical trainer profile in Fluminense in the years between 1970 to 1974, and it was after he attained the championship for the team in the 1970s. He even became the assistant coach of the Brazilian team in 1975 for the Munich Olympic Games while he became a coach of the same team and his very first experience coaching for a major Brazilian team.
Parreira had become a successful, experienced coach for the National team of Kuwait, where he claimed the championship for the Asian Cup in the period between 1976 to 1982.
Parreira became the coach for the team Brazil for the very first time in 1983. Brazil was searching for a substitute for Tele Santana, who had commanded the team during the 1982 cup then. Parreira’s personality failed at pleasing the Brazilian fans who wanted the return of Tele as a coach for the team in 1986.
He returned to the Middle East to coach the teams of the UAE (1985-1988) and Saudi Arabia, where he managed to qualify for the World Cup hosted in Italy. Parreira did a great job in Brazil and was re-invited to coach the Brazilian team in 1991. He even invited his old pal Zagallo to become his assistant coach.
Since 1994, Parreira mentioned that he wanted to exit at this peak of success and stated that he had attained his mission and would not coach the Brazilian team anymore. He leaped for an international career; however, he did not succeed while coaching Valencia in Span in 1995 and Fenerbahce in 1996 Turkey.
Parreira had greater success in the Corinthians and Fluminense while back in Brazil and became the vice-championship in 2002. After winning the cup, coach Luiz Felipe Scollari resigned from his Brazilian team and signed with coach Portugal.
Again, the Brazilian Confederation invited Parreira, and this time he accepted. When asked about the promises he made in 1994, Parreira stated that with such a good team of players, he could never turn this invitation down. Since then, Parreira started gathering his victories with Zagallo beside him, and Parreira won the Qualifying match at the World Cup, the Confederation Cup in 2005, and the American Cup in 2004.
