1. Imane Khelif
Algerian welterweight boxer Imane Khelif was the most searched athlete on Google in 2024. Finishing on top of the podium at Paris Olympics 2024, the 25-year-old became her country’s first female boxer to win an Olympic gold medal. She was also declared as UNICEF’s ambassador in January,
Khelif became a talking point on social media for her controversial participation at the Paris Olympics due to her gender. Her opponent Italian Angela Carini withdrew in the second round claiming injustice.
2. Mike Tyson
American former professional boxer, Mike Tyson drew attention for his fight against Jake Paul. Tyson, one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all-time, took to the boxing ring after high anticipation in a post-retirement bout this year.
Jake Paul eventually won the fight but it was the 58-year-old Tyson who became the talking point.
3. Lamine Yamal
Lamine Yamal, who was the hero for Spain at the Euro 2024, was one of the top athletes searched on Google this year. The 17-year-old became the joint record holder for most assists in a single Euro edition with four assists.
Yamal was named the ‘Young Player of the Tournament’, as he also became the youngest ever player to win the Euros. He also became the youngest player to score for Barcelona against Real Madrid. His magnificent curl from outside the penalty box in the semi-final against France was given the ‘Goal of the Tournament’ award.

4. Simone Biles
Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast ever, finds a place in the list following a brilliant show at the Paris Olympics 2024, clinching gold medals in the team, all-round and vault events, apart from winning a silver in floor exercise. She now has eleven Olympic medals, including seven golds.
The 27-year-old also became the only female gymnast to have a skill named on every apparatus after she submitted a new skill for the code of points for the uneven bars- a Weiler kip with 1.5 pirouette.
5. Jake Paul
American professional boxer, Jake Paul, was the fifth most searched athlete on Google in 2024. Paul was in the limelight after defeating former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in November. The match which was broadcast on Netflix became the biggest boxing gate in American history.
Earlier in the year, the 27-year-old had also beat UFC fighter “King of Violence” Mike Perry.
