WWE SummerSlam is one of the biggest events for wrestling fans every year. After WrestleMania it is the second biggest Premium Live Event where many historic matches and rivalries have happened. But when we talk about the most successful superstar one name is at the top rated superstar Edge.
How Edge started his journey at SummerSlam
In 1998 when Edge stepped in the SummerSlam ring for the first time. He teamed up with Sable against Jacqueline and Marc Mero. Edge was new and came as a mystery partner at that time. But still, he got the victory. This match started his successful run at SummerSlam.
TLC match in 2000 made Edge a tag team icon
In SummerSlam 2000 Edge and Christian faced Hardy Boyz and Dudley Boyz in WWE’s first-ever Tables, Ladders and Chairs match. This match completely changed the tag team wrestling scene. Edge and Christian kept their Tag Team Championships and this win became one of the iconic moments of Edge’s career.
Big singles matches made Edge a main event star
In 2001 Edge won the Intercontinental Championship by defeating Lance Storm. It was the opening match of the event but still became one of the best matches for fans. Then in 2002 Edge had a match with Eddie Guerrero which had less buildup but turned out to be a classic. Both showed great in ring skills and fans enjoyed it a lot.
In 2004 Edge won a triple threat match against Chris Jericho and Batista where the Intercontinental Title was on the line. The match was short but all three were future World Champions.
Personal rivalry with Matt Hardy and title defense against John Cena
In 2005 Edge had a personal rivalry with Matt Hardy because Lita was also involved. Their SummerSlam match ended early but the emotional story made it a one of his memorable feud.
In 2006 Edge faced John Cena for the WWE Championship and he successfully kept his title. This proved that Edge had become a main event star.
Edge proved his value against Nexus in 2010
Team WWE and Nexus faced each other in an elimination match and Edge was one of the team members in 2010. He was eliminated by Heath Slater but his presence in the match showed that he was still one of WWE’s top names.
Edge WWE comeback in 2020
Edge returned to WWE in 2020. Just after that he had rivalries with player such as Randy Orton, Roman Reigns and The Judgment Day. He faced Seth Rollins in a Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam 2021 and won the match. This win became the highlight of his Edge return.
In WWE SummerSlam’s legendary history many superstars came and went, but Edge with nine wins created a legacy which is hard to break. His journey started in 1998 and continued till 2021 and in every era he stayed relevant. Because of his consistency and performance he became the most successful superstar in SummerSlam history.
