MS Dhoni Puts An End On Retirement Rumours, Says “Even In Wheelchair…

MS Dhoni, lovingly known as Thala by fans, quit his career in international cricket in 2020 but continued to play for his IPL team, Chennai Super Kings. However, for the last two or three years, rumors regarding his retirement have been going on, with fans speculating whether or not it will be his last IPL season. This year too, the speculations were there but the legendary cricketer has put an end to it forever.

In a recent conversation on JioHotstar ahead of the team’s opening match against Mumbai Indians, he said, “I can play for as long as I want for CSK. That’s my franchise. Even if I’m in a wheelchair, they’ll drag me,”

The statement shows his dedication towards the team and his willingness to play no matter what it takes. MS Dhoni took over the captaincy of CSK in the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008 and under his leadership, the team has won five IPL titles making him the captain with the most IPL titles in the history of the tournament. Not only that, CSK has reached the finals 10 times in the first 14 seasons showing his efficient captaincy, which also earned him the title, “Captain Cool”. He also became the first captain to lead his team to 100 IPL wins in 2019.

MS Dhoni gave up his captaincy last year, ahead of the IPL 2024 to Ruturaj Gaikwad. The new captain is also highly influenced by Captain Cool and in a recent conversation ahead of the opening match of the IPL 2025, he said, “A lot of new players have joined the team and sometimes they struggle to strike the ball as good as he is striking it right now. So, definitely it inspires a lot of us including myself,”

“So, whatever he is doing at the age of 43, I think it is remarkable. We have certain strengths that we have been following since the last two years. So, I think nothing much really changes and hopefully he will continue to deliver those crucial knocks for us,” he added.

Former cricket sensation, Sunil Gavaskar also shared his thoughts on the same and said, “Why should we even ask that question? Why put pressure on him? Every time people question MS Dhoni, he proves them wrong. Don’t doubt his ability. Even at this age, he’s hitting sixes not just past the boundary but into the stands during practice. Age is just a number when it comes to Dhoni,”
