MS Dhoni – The Man, The Myth, The Legend: Chennai Super Kings needed something special to dismiss Phil Salt after the Royal Challengers Bangalore player got off to a strong start with the bat at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

MS Dhoni Delivers Another Lightning-Fast Stumping

The right-handed batsman quickly got into his rhythm, hitting Khaleel Ahmed for two fours in the first over. In the next over, he attacked Ravichandran Ashwin, hitting him for six and two fours. On a pitch where batsmen usually find it tough, Salt’s innings looked like it could turn the game in RCB’s favor.

The home team needed something special to get rid of Salt, and that moment came from their former captain, MS Dhoni. For the second game in a row, the legendary wicketkeeper proved he still has plenty to offer behind the stumps as he executed a lightning-fast stumping.

Salt was facing Noor Ahmad in the fifth over when MS Dhoni stumped him. On the last ball of the over, the left-arm spinner bowled a googly that spun away. Salt tried to play an inside-out shot but missed the ball completely.

Virat Kohli’s Shocked Reaction After Dhoni’s Stumping

In trying to play the shot, Salt momentarily lost his balance, lifting his backfoot for just a fraction of a second. That was enough for MS Dhoni to quickly collect the ball and remove the bails. Virat Kohli‘s shocked reaction said it all as he looked stunned by the stumping.

The decision was sent to the third umpire, and the replays confirmed that Dhoni had indeed caught Salt short. Salt was dismissed after scoring 32 runs off 16 balls, including five fours and a six.

Last week, Dhoni had executed a similar stumping to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav when CSK played Mumbai Indians.

As for the ongoing game, RCB was 73/1 in the eighth over when this report was written. Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal were at the crease for the visitors.
