Mumbai Indians women’s team’s path to qualify directly for the WPL final 2025
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 is in its third season, and this time too the competition has become very interesting. The tournament started on February 14, and it was played in Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Mumbai. At the moment, the Mumbai Indians women’s team is in second place and they have a great chance to get direct entry into the final.
Tournament status
Looking at the performance so far in WPL 2025, both Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) and Delhi Capitals Women (DCW) have performed well. Both teams have 10-10 points, but Delhi Capitals is at the top due to better net run rate (NRR). Mumbai Indians still have an important match left, which can be crucial for direct entry into the final.
League stage and team performance
This season, Nat Sciver-Brunt has been the most successful batsman for Mumbai Indians, scoring 347 runs. At the same time, Amelia Kerr has emerged as the best bowler by taking 13 wickets. On the other hand, Gujarat Giants (GGW) have also played well this season and are in third place with 8 points. Royal Challengers Bangalore Women’s (RCBW) performance was disappointing this time, and they are out of the tournament.
Mumbai Indians’ math to reach the WPL final
The playoff format of WPL is slightly different from IPL. The team that tops the league stage directly enters the final, while the second and third-placed teams play the eliminator. Mumbai Indians have a clear chance to reach the final directly. If they win their last league match against Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCBW), they will top the table with 12 points and qualify directly for the final.
Losing position
If Mumbai Indians lose, they will remain on 10 points and come in second place due to their net run rate. In this case, they will have to play the eliminator against Gujarat Giants to make it to the final, which will be held on March 13.
Final stage matches
Both the eliminator and the final will be played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The eliminator will be held on March 13 and the final on March 15. In the last two seasons, MIW and RCBW have won the title, and this time too Mumbai has a chance to become the champion again.
