England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt is expected to miss the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and India because of an injury in her calf muscle. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Nat will need more time to recover from a minor tear in her left calf muscle that happened while playing for The Blaze recently.

Nat Sciver-Brunt Injury Update Before T20 World Cup

Due to the recent, Nat Sciver-Brunt would be most likely missing the six T20 matches for England. These matches are being played for the final preparations of the Women’s T20 World Cup. The latest reports of Nat revealed that the England skipper needs more time to recover.

She was also unable to play in the ODI series against New Zealand due to the same injury. This is not a good news for England as she’s an important player for the team, not only because of her role of leadership but also because she is an all-around player that provides stability in the team. England batter Sophia Dunkley has said-

“Nat just needs a little bit of extra time to be in the best place possible to be ready and raring to go for the World Cup,”

England Squad Faces Multiple Injury Concerns

Due to the injuries within both squads of ODI and T20 the preparations of England for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 have suffered immensely.

Fast bowler Mahika Gaur was recently ruled out due to a fractured foot, while Em Arlott continues to miss out the matches due to concussion problems. Along with that Issy Wong was unavailable for the ODI series against New Zealand due to a hamstring problem but she is now fit enough to play.

Sciver-Brunt had suffered from the injuries in the past as well. She did not bowl at all last summer as she was recovering from a long-term Achilles problem but made a successful comeback as an all-rounder in the ODI World Cup.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge Also Unavailable for New Zealand T20Is

Danni Wyatt-Hodge is another player who is likely to miss out on the T20I series after England confirmed that she will be unavailable due to her pregnancy. England selectors have named Maia Bouchier and Charis Pavely as replacements for the team.

Maia Bouchier made a mark in the ODIs against New Zealand, where she scored 59 runs in the first game played at Durham. Charis Pavely has maintained a great form in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, having scored two centuries and three fifties in her first eight matches this season.

Charlie Dean to Lead England in Nat Sciver-Brunt’s Absence

As Nat Sciver-Brunt is not available for selection, Charlie Dean will continue to lead the England team in the upcoming T20I series. In the ODI series against New Zealand, Charlie Dean took charge as an interim captain and was appreciated for her leadership skills.

According to Sophia Dunkley “She’s grown so much throughout her time in the England team to becoming a really great leader,” Dunkley said.

Sophia Dunkley Returns for England T20Is

Sophia Dunkley, was out from ODIs due to her knee problem, but will be back in the squad for the upcoming T20I series. Along with her Maia Bouchier, since Danni Wyatt-Hodge is unavailable for the series. The England team have high hopes from the players joining the ODI and T20I squads.
