4 Min Read

The National Games 2025 concluded on 13 February. It was the 38th edition of the tournament which was held in Uttrakhand.

Over 10,000 athletes participated in the event representing 28 states, eight Union Territories and the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) across 32 disciplines with four demonstrative sports namely Kalaripayattu, Yogasana, Mallakhamb and Rafting.

The mascot for this edition was Mouli, which symbolizes the natural beauty of the state. The theme was “Sankalp Se Shikhar Tak” meaning from determination to excellence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event and it’s of great significance as it also serves as a platform for athletes to gear up for major international tournaments like the Asian Games and the Olympics.

The overall champion will be awarded the Raja Bhalindra Singh Trophy. A total of 33 teams took part in the event with SSCB being on the top with 68 gold medals and 121 total medals.

The first gold medal of the competition was won by Dev Kumar Meena in the men’s pole vault event while also setting a new national record at a height of 5.32 meters.

Similarly, Anushka Yadav won the first gold in the woman’s category in hammer throw which also broke previous records by being 62.89 meters.

Uttrakhand hosted the event for the first time and also performed impressively throughout and bagged 24 golds and 103 total medals which improved their position from 24th in the last edition to 7th in this season.

The SSCB holds the record for the most number of National Games titles, and they won four successive titles in 2007,2011,2015 and 2022 before the streak was broken by Maharashtra last year. This year again, SSCB will lift the trophy in the closing ceremony that is set to take place on 14 February 2025.
