The Indian women’s hockey team completed their tour of Argentina with a strong finish after initially struggling to find success.

During the last match of the four-match series, along with getting back on track, both teams ended up in a tie at the end of regulation and went into a penalty shootout.

This performance really showed the change of momentum for the Indian women’s hockey team.

Stand-in captain Navneet Kaur believes the turnaround is a strong indicator of the team’s progress.

She said “I am incredibly proud of how the team responded after the first two matches. It isn’t easy to trail 0-2 against a world-class team like Argentina, but we showed the heart and character needed to fight back.”

India opened the tour with a competitive display despite a 4-2 defeat. Navneet Kaur and Annu got on the scoresheet, showing attacking promise against a well-drilled Argentine side.

However, defensive lapses proved costly as the hosts capitalised through Maria Emilia Larsen, Victoria Granato and Julieta Jankunas.

The second match followed a similar pattern. Ishika handed India an early lead, but Argentina responded strongly, with Agustina Gorzelany scoring twice to seal a 2-1 win.

At that stage, India were trailing 0-2 in the series, with pressure mounting.

The third game marked a clear shift. India looked more structured, especially in set-pieces. Navneet Kaur and Neha converted penalty corners to secure a 2-1 win, keeping the series alive.

Even when Argentina pulled one back late, India held their shape and composure, something that had been missing in the opening matches.

The final match was a tight, tactical contest. Both sides created chances, but India’s defense stood firm to keep a clean sheet in regulation time.

In the shootout, India held their nerve to secure a 3-2 win, ensuring the series ended level. It was a performance built on discipline and belief, especially after the early setbacks.

Talking about the comeback, Navneet Kaur said that the team has taken a step forward mentally.

“These back-to-back wins prove that we are moving in the right direction and can handle pressure on the big stage.”

The result carries added weight given the quality of Argentina, one of the top teams in world hockey.

For India Women’s Hockey, the tour was less about results and more about response, and in that sense, it delivered exactly what the team needed.
