A 3-point shot came six years after the 3-point line was introduced in the NBA in 1979. With this all All 3-Point Contest came into being.
The 3-Point Challenge is one of the marquee events across the NBA All-Star Weekend. It is paired with the Slam Dunk Contest to form a duet of skills challenges.
Larry Bird was the first winner of the competition back in 1986, who went on to win the following two to register three consecutive wins.
The only player to match Bird was Chicago Bulls‘ Craig Hodges, who won three straight contests from 1990 to 1992.
Damian Lillard has the potential to join Hodges’ and Bird’s elite club as he leads the bunch competing in the 2025 NBA All-Star 3-Point contest. The American, who won the event at the last two All-Star Weekends.
