The NCAA Women’s Regional Gymnastics 2025 season enters its penultimate weekend on April 2.
Competitions will be held at four regional sites across the United States – hosted by Penn State University, the University of Alabama, the University of Utah, and the University of Washington.
The NCAA women’s regional gymnastics tournament is an annual competition sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to determine the team and individual national champions of women’s collegiate gymnastics among its member programs in the United States. Unlike most other NCAA-sponsored sports, the women’s gymnastics championship is not separated into divisions and uses a single National Collegiate tournament instead.
NCAA Women’s Regional Gymnastics 2025: Format
The championship features a field of 36 teams determined based on their national qualifying score. The NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Committee seeds teams 1-16, and the remaining teams are placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. Included in the championship field are also 12 all-around competitors and 64 individual event specialists (all of whom are not on a qualifying team).
At the national championships, semifinal team, all-around competition and individual event specialist finals will be conducted in two sessions. The top two teams from each semifinal will advance to championship final competition.
The team championship will be awarded to the team with the highest cumulative team score, with five scores counting per event. The all-around and individual event championships will be awarded to the individuals with the highest cumulative score during semi-final competition.
Singnificance
The event is crucial as it will determine the eight teams that advance to the NCAA Championships. Each regional semi-final will feature four teams, with the top two advancing to the regional final. There, another quad meet will determine the two teams that advance to the NCAA finals set for Ft. Worth from 17 to 19 April.
Among the stars to headline the Championship are Olympic gold medallists Jade Carey (Oregon State University) and Jordan Chiles (UCLA).
2024 NCAA title winners, the Louisiana State University Tigers, enter the post-season not only as the defending champions but the No. 1 seed nationally. Perennial powerhouse the University of Oklahoma, which held the top spot in the national rankings for almost the entirety of the season, are the second-seeded squad. The University of Florida, Utah, and UCLA round out the top five in third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
