NED vs NEP: Netherlands Secure Historic Thriller After Three Super Overs Over Nepal

In a record-breaking and one-for-the-ages encounter in Glasgow, Netherlands (NED) narrowly defeated Nepal (NEP) in a thriller match of unprecedented drama that featured not one, not two, but three Super Overs, the first in the history of men’s professional cricket in both the T20 and List A formats.
NED vs NEP: A Match for the Ages
The NED vs NEP high-voltage clash was history in the making, as both teams kept responding to each other blow-for-blow during regular time and two Super Overs, before the Netherlands eventually won in the third.
Final Over Drama: Nepal Force First Super Over
Pursuing 153, Nepal required 16 runs in the last over of regulation time. Young gun Nandan Yadav kept Nepal in contention, thrashing Kyle Klein for 4, 2, 2, and a further 4, equalling scores and pushing the game into the very first Super Over.
Super Over 1: Bhurtel, Levitt Shine
Nepal came out to bat first in Super Over 1 with Kushal Bhurtel losing his cool, hitting two sixes and one four off Daniel Doram, who had previously taken 3 wickets for only 14 runs in the regular innings.
But Michael Levitt struck back in style for the Netherlands. He cleared the boundary in the first ball, then followed Max O’Dowd’s 6 and 4 in the penultimate two deliveries to level the Super Over and take the match into a second Super Over.
Super Over 2: Airee Takes It Deeper
In the second Super Over, the Netherlands were limited to 17 runs by Lalit Rajbanshi, even though they had two early sixes. Nepal’s pursuit got off to a roar Rohit Paudel smacked a six on the first ball, and Dipendra Singh Airee followed with a four.
With 7 required off the last delivery, Airee deposited Klein over cow corner for a six, causing scenes of utter disbelief and making the match go into the third Super Over, a first-ever in men’s cricket.
Super Over 3: Lion-Cachet’s Heroics Seal it for NED
With the pressure building, Zach Lion-Cachet was given the ball. The offspinner bowled a sensational over, getting rid of both Paudel and debutant Rupesh Singh without allowing even a run.
Levitt came back to finish it off, hitting Sandeep Lamichhane over long-on for six, finally putting an end to the rollercoaster NED vs NEP match and securing a historic Netherlands win.
