The Netherland World Cup squad announced for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, to be held in both India and Sri Lanka. Many familiar names have been inducted into the Netherland’s Squad, which clearly shows that the management is counting on experience for the upcoming global competition.
Key Players Make a Comeback to the Netherlands World Cup Squad
Several senior players who did not go to Bangladesh have returned to the setup. Among those coming back in are Roelof van der Merwe, Bas de Leede, Michael Levitt and Zach Lion-Cachet, none of whom travelled after the Europe Region Final, where the Netherlands sealed their spot at the World Cup with Italy.
The recall of the veteran all-rounder Colin Ackermann is also included, for whom this game will mark a return to T20 internationals for the first time since November 2024, adding depth and balance to the middle order.
Bowling Reinforcements Strengthen the Squad
Fast bowler Timm van der Gugten returns to T20I cricket for the first time since 2024, the 34-year-old had a decent recent T20 Blast campaign – picking up six wickets in ten matches. That likely played a key role in his selection.
Another choice in the Netherland World Cup Squad includes the presence of all-rounder Logan van Beek. He last played for the Netherlands during the 2024 T20 World Cup and has since kept busy playing in New Zealand’s Super Smash, where he took five wickets in seven appearances for Wellington.
Notable Omissions from the World Cup Squad
Although they were part of the Bangladesh tournament, Teja Nidamanuru, Tim Pringle, and Vikramjit Singh have not made the cut in the remaining group. Others are Cedric de Lange, Sikander Zulfiqar, Sebastiaan Braat, Daniel Doram, Shariz Ahmad, and Ryan Klein, who have not made the cut as the selection panel aimed to form a well-balanced team of 15 players.
Netherlands Group and Fixtures at T20 World Cup 2026
Netherlands have been grouped in Group A, in which they have tough opponents such as India (holders), Pakistan, Namibia, and the United States. This event shall be the seventh appearance in the Men’s T20 World Cup tournament for Netherlands.
Their World Cup campaign started in 2009. This tournament is famously recalled for the Netherlands’ thrilling win in the opening match against the English, one of the most startling moments in the T20 World Cup.
The Scott Edwards-led team will begin their 2026 campaign with a big match against Pakistan on February 7 in Colombo, and this will help them assess their readiness in the initial stages of the T20 World Cup 2026.
