A new Geneva Softball Association (GSA) has been formed for girls starting at 9 years of age and older in Geneva, IL.

GENEVA, Ill., Oct. 13, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — 33 years ago, Geneva residents established a community-based organization for young boys to play baseball. This association was based on the foundation for the love of the sport, and it also provided a feeder program for boys’ baseball programs in the community and high school. Now, 33 years later, history has been made again, as the new GSA supports the young women of Geneva. According to Lisa Leslie, President of the Geneva Softball Association, “We felt it was time to be able to tell our daughters they also have a place in our community and now have the opportunity for personal growth by playing in a team sport like softball.”

Lisa Leslie, Business Development Director with Freeman, partnered with her co-coach of 4 years, Diane Bemer, Middle School Math Teacher, to formulate the Geneva Softball Association. The GSA mission is to develop young athletes, train coaches, provide a proper feeder program for the high school and a service to the community. Therefore, Lisa turned to Aaron Wauters, Commissioner at the GBA, who provided his assistance in helping establish the new GSA, including conveying best practices.

Geneva now has two brands to build the foundation for Geneva-based sports and athletes. The Vikings represent the GBA, and the Valkyrie represent the GSA. Unlike other softball programs in the area, GSA is a non-profit 501c3 organization made up of local community volunteers and a board that is passionate about the sport of softball and the growth opportunities it affords the young women living in Geneva. GSA is supported by donations and contributions from local sponsors.

The GSA begins tryouts early this winter for their first tournament teams, which will begin in spring/summer of 2023.
