Newcastle Send £55m Bid for Anthony Elanga as Magpies Step Up Transfer Push
The Magpies have officially made their move. Again.
Newcastle United have submitted a new £55 million bid to Nottingham Forest for Swedish winger Anthony Elanga, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. After their initial £45m approach was firmly rejected last month, it seemed the pursuit might be over but now, Newcastle are back at the table with a significantly improved offer.
Forest have remained insistent that Elanga isn’t for sale unless a serious bid comes in. Reports suggest Nuno Espirito Santo’s side might start listening at around the £60 million mark, which would represent a massive return on the £12m they paid Manchester United just last summer.
And with numbers like Elanga’s, you can see why.

The winger was electric last season bagging 6 goals and 11 assists in 38 Premier League appearances, playing a crucial role in Forest’s impressive seventh-place finish and their Europa Conference League qualification. For a player who was once a fringe figure at Old Trafford, the rise has been nothing short of spectacular.
Champions League Calling
Newcastle, meanwhile, are back in the Champions League mix and looking to bolster their squad with dynamic, high-ceiling talent. But it hasn’t been smooth sailing.
They’ve already missed out on a few of their key targets this summer including Burnley keeper James Trafford and forward Joao Pedro, who ended up at Chelsea via Brighton.
Whether they’d return for Elanga or switch focus had been the big question. But now it’s crystal clear.

Elanga: “I made the right decision, 100%.”
Let’s not forget the journey. Elanga made the bold call to leave Manchester United two years ago, a move some questioned at the time. But speaking to The Athletic last December, he had no doubts.

“I made the right decision, 100%,” the Swedish international said.
“I have not really spoken about this, but at the time at United, I was very young and I was coming into a team that was struggling.
“Yes, there was the thought that ‘I am playing for Manchester United’. But I also never felt as though I was improving. I was playing for the sake of playing when I did get the odd opportunity off the bench.
“Coming to Forest was so big for me, because suddenly I was regularly playing 90 minutes, while having the opportunity to improve.
“When I played, I felt like I had purpose; like I was playing and improving in the process. That was the biggest change for me.”
And now? That bet on himself could soon turn into a record move and a chance to light up the Champions League.
